Q. What is Newcastle 2030?
Newcastle 2030 is an exciting opportunity for the Newcastle community to influence and shape its future through the development of a long-term shared community vision and plan for the local government area.
Council’s across NSW are embarking on long-term and integrated planning with their communities, recognising that strong and resilient communities grow from the inside out and are built on local strengths and assets. Newcastle 2030 provides an opportunity to effectively communicate to other levels of government what the community’s priorities are for our City.
Q. What are the 7 priority areas?
Over 1,000 members of the community have had direct input into Newcastle 2030 to date through a range of activities including a community forum, workshops with primary, high school and University students, telephone survey and the completion of 600 postcards at community events across the local government area.
We have been asking you what you want Newcastle and its communities to be like in 20 years time and the priorities we need to address in moving towards this preferred vision. The 7 priority areas identified are:
Connected City
Our transport networks and services are well connected and convenient. Walking, cycling and public transport are viable options for the majority of our trips.
Protected and Enhanced Environment
Our unique environment is understood, maintained and protected.
Vibrant and Activated Public Places
We are a city of great public places and neighbourhoods that promote people’s health, happiness and well being.
Caring and Inclusive community
We are a thriving community where diversity is embraced, everyone is valued and has an opportunity to contribute and belong.
Liveable and Distinctive Built Environment
An attractive city that is built around people and reflects our sense of identity
Smart and Innovative City
A leader in smart innovations with a healthy, diverse and resilient economy
Open and Collaborative Leadership
A strong local democracy with an actively engaged community and effective partnerships
Now we want to start identifying the actions we as a community can undertake over the next 10 years to work towards these outcomes.
Q. What is Integrated Planning & Reporting?
The Integrated Planning and Reporting Framework combines Council's strategies and plans into one cohesive framework.
The framework will link Council's current operations with the city vision and strategic directions developed through the newcastle 2030 process. The process will build on our strenghts and enable challenges to be responded to in a sustainable and combined manner.
The comprehensive framework will help Council and the community understand priorities and ensure better decision making at all spheres of government.
