I don't think this is a priority compared to actually getting started on the cycle routes. Most serious commuters take their bikes into their workplaces and wouldn't trust any non secure parking options. Recreational cyclists/shoppers/ beach goers just need simple poles to lock their bikes up to, in my opinion. And good quality coffee, but we've already got this. Sec

Ditto. Just concentrate on getting the cycleway in and yes its really only the casual cyclists that need posts or racks to lock up their bikes. Everyone else I know who rides to work secures their bike in the workplace.

It would be great to have easily accessible secure lock up for bikes at train stations. I know there is a bike locker at Newcastle Station, but I have no idea how to access it!

This has to be a secondary priority, but nevertheless one that should be sorted out early in order to make sure cyclists have proper incentives. The solution is quite simple; I recall a relatively recent episode of The New Inventors where one invention showcased was a cheap-to-build cycle shed, containing showers and bike lockers for ten people per station. Put three or four of these at any major location along the Hunter Street cycleway (which would run where the rail line used to be) which is likely to have a lot of people stopping. Suggestions; Wheeler Place (possibly in what remains of Civic Station), somewhere near the mall, near the end of the cycleway.

Dont you think you are being selfish, I say keep the line, ban cars and have a light rail system work in conjuction with the heavy rail.

Selfish? What on earth do you mean by selfish? If you were to poll the entire electorate, the only people who seriously want the rail line into town are the hardcore Save Our Rail folks, it's just that they're very loud. If we were to perform a few minor improvements to the bus network then we could cut the line at Wickham and significantly improve the inner city.

Lachlan the MAD, Obviously there is strong demand to keep the line otherwise the Government would have cut it. No one wants a bus service and if they did the result would be gridlock with an enormous amount of buses competiting with cars, you need to wake up and take your blinkers off
